Golf Swing Training: Choose Carefully

by Perry Rightmond

Serious golfers are always searching for ways to better their swing. Likewise, a lot of companies are well aware of this. They will offer to sell you different items to improve your swing. Such things as special bracelets, special clubs, pills or weird contraptions have been offered as ways to help your game. What is the correct area to look into when you are serious about golf swing training?

It's important to realize that you can't learn how to play golf from a training system. There is no adequate complete program of golf instruction. An experienced golfer may learn tips, tricks and hints to improve specific aspects of their golf game. Thus, the first step is to determine exactly what areas you need to improve.

A good program in golf swing training should begin with a thorough analysis of your swing. You can spend a great deal of money going to a high-tech company that will analyze your swing from many angles, in real time, slowed down, and speeded up, using real video and wireframe models. Many of us cannot afford this, however; some time with your home video camera can provide you with a good start.

Any aspect of your swing can be the focus of your training. The areas that most golfers need to work on are alignment of the body, flexibility of the muscles, and monitoring your swing speed. Many products offer swing training that promises to lower your strokes for the game.

Not every product will live up to its claims, and not every good product will work for everyone, so it is important to try out a product before you buy. Now that you have narrowed down the focus of your golf swing training, go to a pro shop or club that will let you try them out. Talk to people there and find out what they use. Read reviews on the Internet, and post to golf groups to learn about other people's experience.

After you've picked an instructional course that seems to meet your needs, you've got to stay with it. You can't get better overnight, regardless of how good the program is. Wait for weeks, or even months, before you decide whether your game is improving or not. Be sure to play as much as possible and, above all, enjoy it!
